About FreeDoc & Editorial Policy
FreeDoc is a free, searchable library of general medical information.
What FreeDoc is
FreeDoc publishes plain-English guides on conditions, symptoms, medications, tests, procedures and medical terminology. Every guide follows the same structure and lists the authoritative references it draws on, such as MedlinePlus, the CDC, the NIH, the NHS, the FDA and RadiologyInfo.org.
What FreeDoc is not
FreeDoc is not a medical provider and is not a diagnostic tool. It does not ask about your symptoms, history, medications or test results, and it does not generate personalized answers. Search returns existing published guides only. Nothing on FreeDoc diagnoses a condition, recommends a treatment or dose, or decides whether a situation is an emergency.
How guides are written and reviewed
- Guides are written for a general audience, in plain language, from current authoritative public-health and clinical references.
- Medication guides describe general uses, mechanisms, common side effects and warnings. They never include doses or instructions to start, stop or combine medicines.
- Guides about potentially serious symptoms include general information about warning signs that are commonly treated as emergencies.
- Software tools may assist with editorial tasks such as drafting, organizing, tagging and finding duplicate content. Published guides are fixed pages; nothing is generated for individual readers.
- Each guide shows the date it was last updated.
